Role: Designer, Animator
'Your Rose Garden' is a musical short film produced by Alexis Harte, celebrating the storied Berkeley Rose Garden, built by the WPA in the 1930s and a living, vital community space to this day.
I am in charge of creating a short animated motion sequence for this film to visualize a surreal journey through different kinds of roses, stemmed from the style in 1930 murals and WPA artists.

Inspiration:
Aaron Douglas Murals
We drew significant inspiration from Aaron Douglas, an artist known for his iconic WPA-era murals. The recurring triple-circle motif appears throughout the film as a nod to his signature use of layered shades and gradients. We aimed to capture this 2D painterly, silhouette-driven aesthetic while still preserving the sensation of moving through a 3D world.

2D Styleframe Illustrations
From Aaron Douglas styles, I illustrated these styleframes for the main rose characters. I wanted to create a surreal, colorful world that the audience can fall into.
